The Motorola One 5G Ace is a budget smartphone that looks and works just as good as the top options on the market

Last year the original Motorola One 5G dropped on the market with a few major problems. Last year’s model was more expensive than this year’s iteration and had no distinguishable features from other smartphones.

It’s safe to say that manufacturer Motorola went back to the drawing board for this year’s model, and might have hit a home run.

A solid 5G phone that has improved upon its predecessor and become one of the most economic options on the market.

In 2020 the Motorola One 5G debuted to mixed reviews. It was relatively affordable but had nothing to differentiate itself from a packed crowd of affordable 5G phones. Motorola’s response to this year’s model was simple; make the phone even cheaper.

While the Ace might be the least expensive device Motorola has ever sold, rival products have come up with cheaper 5G options of their own. The battery life has improved noticeably from it’s predecessor but in ways the 5G Ace struggles to separate itself beyond price.

Motorola One 5G Ace Review: Industrial Design

When holding the Motorola One 5G Ace you don’t get the feel that you are using an economy smartphone. While the case is plastic, the frosted silver color and textured pattern make the phone feel and appear as more expensive then it is.

Motorola One 5G Ace packs excellent battery life

Most of the weight of the 5G Ace comes from it’s hefty battery unit. The Ace packs a long lasting 5,000-mAh battery, which upon CNET tests has lasted for 1.5 days on a single charge! There are many phones on the market that are 2 – 3x as expensive as the Motorola One 5G Ace that don’t have batteries that last this long.

The 5G Ace display screen could be better

The Motorola One 5G Ace comes with a 6.7-inch LCD screen, with a single selfie camera, and support for HDR10. For general use the screen and camera look and function well but leave some room for desire. The screen is a bit dull in color and brightness which becomes obvious when used in outdoor sunlight. This screen also lacks the 90Hz refresh rate that was in the 2020 One 5G model.
