Recent reports are showing an uptick in Mbappe trade inquiries 

Arguably the best footballer in the world right now, Kylian Mbappe is not pleased with the direction of PSG and is looking for a new team. Over the last few weeks, two of the worlds biggest clubs Real Madrid and Liverpool are embroiled in an intense sweepstakes for Mbappe’s services.

Where does Real Madrid stand in the free agency battle for Mbappe?

It’s been an open secret since 2017 that Real Madrid want to make a play for Mbappe. When Mbappe was leaving Monaco as an 18 year old budding star, Madrid made it clear in their interest. The only major hitch at that time was that Madrid was stacked with superstars at the attack. With Christiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, there simply isn’t enough space on the pitch for a young up and coming Mbappe.

Today, the situation has changed for Madrid. While they are currently being rumored to be dialing back the large spending of recent years, if there was any team to fork over 100m Euro+ for a signing like Mbappe, it is without a doubt Real Madrid. Additionally, if Mbappe moves to Real Madrid it is clear he would be their #1 option and player. With Mbappe’s interest in Real Madrid being well known the team has emerged as the likeliest landing spot.

Is Liverpool a serious contender for Kylian Mbappe?

Liverpool has reportedly reached out to Paris Saint-German regarding a potential Mbappe transfer.

Back in 2019, reports of Liverpool seeking Mbappe’s services ran rampant. When questioned about those rumors Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp shot them down:

“Buying this calibre of player is difficult. I don’t see any club at the moment who can buy Kylian Mbappe from PSG.

“I don’t see any club, that is how it is. And we are involved in the clubs that cannot do it. It is as easy as that.

“Okay, from a sporting point of view, there are not a lot of reasons to not sign him. What a player he is.

“But it is about the money, of course. No chance. Absolutely no chance.

“Sorry for killing that story.”

The question is now whether the circumstances have changed. In two years since the rumors first began, Mbappe has become arguably the best footballer in the world and has continued to improve his statistics and impact on the pitch. Liverpool could very well be challenging Real Madrid in the Kylian Mbappe sweepstakes.
